Serah Farron is voiced by Minako Kotobuki, a Japanese voice actress and singer born in 1991. As a voice artist, she has already held a number of notable roles such as:

  • Rika Dobashii (Hatsukoi Limited)
  • Tsumugi Kotobuki (K-On!)
  • Kaho Sakazaki (Yoku Wakaru Gendai Maho)
  • Yako Jinguji (Chu-Bra!!)

At 19 years old, Minako Kotobuki is only a year older than Serah Farron. You could say that she’s in the perfect position to relate to Serah’s experiences as a teenager growing up.

In a less narrow-minded point of view (as experiences don’t depend on age), it’s easy to see Kotobuki’s skill and talent.

Serah was a character who received very little screentime in comparison to the rest of the main cast and so it’s crucial how they portrayed her in the cutscenes because that was all she had. This means that everything from her body language to her conversations with others is important to her voice.

It’s difficult to convey how important a voice actress is and how big of a role she can have in bringing together everything about her character. However, whether it’s fear, pain, sadness or joy, Kotobuki masterfully portrays Serah’s emotions throughout the story. What she contributes allows the audience to relate, sympathize, or empathize with Serah because she becomes all the more real to their eyes (and ears).
